Someone at my work has an e-type...er iPace, I mean I-Pace
Looks nice. Just a reminder that this “SUV” is only about half an inch taller than a Ford Taurus.
(61.3 inches to 60.7 inches)

To be fair the Ford Taurus is (externally) huge.

its true, but it certainly tells the tale of the blurriness of the line these days between whats a “car” and whats an “SUV”. I just wish we could all agree that the reason the crossover pocalypse is happening is in large part because manufactures are incentiviz ed to do it (CAFE footprint, less stringent emissions for CAFE, etc). Consumers for their part have figured out they like hatch and wagon practicality, AWD security and easy entry and exit. Frankly...why not?

Yes. Came to say this. On the road the other day, a Taurus and a stock F-150 were side by side, and the top of the Taurus’ trunk lid wasn’t much lower than the bed rails of the truck.

on the other hand though, its on a little over 2 inches taller than an Impreza hatch...not the crosstrek, just the I mpreza. (the crosstrek is 2 inches taller than an i-pace)

100% agreed. The Polestar 2 is also following this trend as well. “Cars” may very well soon be relegated to a niche for when someone wants something “ sporty” . Manufacturers are already moving this direction as now all the marketing and design language for new Camrys (and probably other cars basically say this.
Actually I saw a huge billboard ad in NYC last week for the new XT4 that said “Why turn corners when you can turn heads”.
Oh well, just a consequence of poor infrastructure and lack of interest in driving I guess.

I wouldn’t even say that, hot crossovers are popping up all over the place and they are good drivers. I just think the crossover is the new car and we need to get used to the idea as they slowly morph together and towards one another.

I saw one next to an odyssey the other day and they were almost the same height.
Then I sat inside the Taurus and I couldn’t believe how small it was inside. Its like a reverse Tardis.

Hey if they drive well, and they’re comfortable and practical as well, I don’t see why we should be complaining.
And sports cars will always exist in one form or another...at least I hope.
